Director Ang Lee is set to helm Life of Pi, a movie adaptation of the fantasy adventure novel of the same name written by Yann Martel. It's a survival tale that revolves around the young Pi Patel who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a hungry Bengal tiger. Actor Suraj Sharma got the lead role as the young Pi Patel. The cast also includes Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan, Gerard Depardieu, and Adil Hussain. The release date of the movie Life of Pi is tentatively set for December 14, 2012.
Plot:
"The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes, the ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat adrift in the Pacific Ocean. His only companions on the 26-foot lifeboat: a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, all fighting for survival. It's a tale of faith, hope and fighting for survival."
